A note from the SCAN Secretary (J.T. Crisp) When my husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer, I like most people, knew very little about this particular disease. From diagnosis to surgery was only a matter of days, and there was no time to ask questions about how or why. Afterwards I felt very isolated; there seemed to be no help anyway. I approached the usual organisations but upon mentioning 'Stomach Cancer' I was met with more questions than answers. Eventually after years of frustration and talking to other people, my husband and I decided there was a desperate need for a dedicated stomach cancer charity. And here we are at the start of what I hope will be a necessary and useful organisation for the public and anyone with an interest in stomach cancer. It has been a long road, but I believe we are at the beginning of a road that will be of help to other members of the public, as it has been to George and myself. Acknowledgements: The Trustees would like to thank Macmillan Cancer for their help, advice and financial support towards SCAN UK. |
